This was the first Framus I restored.
Framus has an amazing history of making quality stringed instruments, which began in 1946 as highly skilled German luthiers were being expelled from Czechoslovakia after the war, and resettled in the Bavarian region of Germany.
This vintage Framus Texan 5/196 was made in 1968 in the former West Germany. It had been so well played that the first three frets were grooved all the way down flush with the fingerboard, which was also deeply scalloped. I did a full disassemble and tried my hand at a complete fret replacement (my first ever attempt). Gotta love you tube. I think it went pretty well.
During the 1960s Framus guitars were the largest selling brand in all of Europe, and many upstart superstars leaned their craft on a Framus. (Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin was originally recorded on a Framus).
