100 year old round back mandolin.

Did this one as a favour. It is a turn of the 20th century round back mandolin, and it had very special sentimental value to the owner. As you can see in the followings few pictures, the top braces had let go and the top sunk pretty badly. After a few days of humidifying it in my guitar humidor, I had restored some of the elasticity to the spruce and then I was able to carefully get in through the sound hole with a long syringe and glue the brace. Clamped it up and the top sprung back almost to flat. Also fixed the loose neck on it. A simply beautiful piece. Happy to have been able to do it.

  1. My pleasure. It’s a truly beautiful piece and would have been a tragedy to see it deteriorate any further. Should be good to go for the indefinite future now. With the small investment of a case humidifier it should last forever.
