Slightly smaller than a dreadnaught, this AD213 is a great little folk guitar. Made in Japan in 1978. I’ll throw out a big thanks to Jeremy Hamm from #HammTone guitars in Winnipeg who passed this one my way because he said he’s never get around to finishing it. When it came my way, the frets had been already redone, except for a missing 15th fret. The broken headstock had also been fixed. What was left to do …. the neck was off and needed a reset, the bridge was missing, the nut was missing, and it had no tuners.
The kids were actually bored of video games, so this became a family restoration where I did very little hands on, and just talked the kids through the work. All said and done, it turned out really nice and plays great. The restoration photos are below.
The neck is sitting loosely in the dovetail joint. Replacing the 15th fret … install, snip, file, file, file, sand, level, buff, perfect. Both kids get in on brushing hide glue into the dovetail and onto the neck and fretboard extension. After the neck dried, time to install the bridge …. this picture belies the complexity though… lots of measuring and testing to get it all aligned and ensure the intonation would be good. And wait for it to dry. Nice solid ebony bridge, ebony bridge pins with abalone insert are coming too. Learning how to setup the nut and saddle. And….. plays GREAT!Thanks for looking. Merry Christmas.
