Vintage Yamaki Folk

Vintage 70’s Yamaki A231S

This was a super fun little project. A local gentleman contacted me about fixing this guitar for him because he wanted to gift it to budding young artist in Nova Scotia (click the video link at the end of my blog post to see what happened).

As it came to me … the following pics will show what was wrong with it.
Bridge lifting.
Top of the guitar collapsing in on itself, broken down both sides of the neck.
Sunken sound hole due to loose bracing under the bridge.
I like vintage labels.
Step one of the repair was to reinforce the neck area and sound hole. This brace I added was cut from a salvaged cedar guitar top. If you look at some of my other posts you’ll find the Almansa project, pieces of that salvaged top have found their way into many of my subsequent repairs.
Using a screw jack, I pushed the neck back where it was supposed to be and clamped the new bracing in place while the glue dried.
The sound hole is round again.
Glued and clamped the loose bracing inside. I forgot to take a picture of the bridge repair, but you get the idea.
Finished.

Here is the link to April Martell receiving the guitar. You seriously have to watch some of her videos, she’s got some real talent.

I am proud to have been a small part of this story. Thanks for looking.
