About

My Guitar Fix is a blog dedicated to amateur guitar repair and restoration. I’m a self-taught fixit guy and I’ve found a passion for making broken guitars play again. I’ve only been doing this since the spring of 2019 and I’ve already done over 120 guitars (and other stringed instruments) in varying stages of disrepair. This blog is probably more for myself than anyone else, but I’m happy to share my work.

I have a special affinity for vintage stuff, particularly Japanese instruments from the 70’s, or anything Canadian, although I have tackled just about everything I’ve come across. The funny part is that I don’t even play very well – I’m a three-chord-hack at best. I’m definitely better at fixing them than I am at playing them.

A good friend of mine dubbed my hobby the “General Guitar Works” because I earned the nickname “Little General” about 27 years ago… It seems I’ve always had an affinity for not minding my own business. 🙂 The name stuck, so now I’m the General Guitar Works.

I’m always on the hunt for stuff people are planning to throw in the garbage, and try and make them play again. If I find something special, I’ll pay what I can. After restoration, I sell the instruments to invest back into new tools or new projects. I certainly don’t make much money at it, and most of what I sell I let go pretty cheap. I feel good about getting good instruments into the hands of people who might otherwise not be able to afford something decent. Thanks much for looking.
